Our Denomination
Southside is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), a conservative, Bible believing Presbyterian denomination formed in 1973. The name Presbyterian refers to our method of leadership and structure. Derived from the Greek word presbuteros, which means “elder,” each Presbyterian church is not run by one person, but has a group of elders as their spiritual overseers. Our congregation is under the spiritual oversight and leadership of this local body of elders called the Session. Additionally, our minister and ruling elders are overseen by other PCA elders in the region, called the Presbytery, and in our national General Assembly. Further information on the PCA is available from the pastor or by visiting the denomination’s official website: www.pcanet.org.
